ILPN

International Long-term care Policy Network (ILPN) is a network of professionals, institutions and associations involved in long-term care (LTC) with a common purpose; to promote global exchange of LTC policy evidence and knowledge.

ILPN was launched in September 2010 and is based in the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), United Kingdom. ILPN is the first network of its kind providing an interface between researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders facilitating contribution to and sharing of evidence which would be of significant assistance in shaping and improving policies and practices in LTC.

Need

Demographic changes have pushed long-term care up the policy agenda of governments precisely at the time when they are facing major economic challenges. Governments' policy responses to this through reform of the existing care and support systems have been met with anxious response from public. Public policy needs to be supported by an evidence base created through research and analysis about 'what works' in long-term care (LTC). However, the concern is on paucity of evidence on one hand and lack of an appropriate forum to share the existing knowledge widely and effectively at international level.

ILPN's objectives

ILPN aims to fulfil the above need through:

1. Strengthening the links between the research community, policy makers and long-term care industry
2. Promoting sharing of existing evidence base on LTC policy and practice
3. Fostering research collaborations to develop new evidence in areas where knowledge gaps exist in LTC
4. Promoting International comparative policy analysis towards evidence based policy making

ILPN's Strategy

ILPN’s aims to achieve this by providing a forum which convenes researchers, professionals, policy makers and other key stakeholders to research, analyse, compare and share to bear upon issues which impact policies and practices in LTC.
